Annual General Meeting of Carrefour Nunavut and nomination of new member of the Board of the directors!

Iqaluit, September 24, 2017 - Carrefour Nunavut held its 7th Annual General Meeting on September 20 at the Nunatta Sunakkutaangit Museum. The event attracted a record number, with more than 35 participants attending, where discussions, decision-making and celebrations took place.

Carrefour Nunavut members and partners were invited to participate in a networking cocktail from 5:00 pm. Speakers who presented the various opportunities in terms of funding programs, the workforce and services offered to the Francophone community animated this evening. Then, the speeches of the outgoing president, Mrs. Anny-Emilie Perron Pasalic, and of the executive director, Mrs Valérie Hélène Gagnon. Then, the annual report for the year 2016-2017 was presented to the members present.

Carrefour Nunavut's Executive Director, Mrs Valérie Hélène Gagnon, presented the 2016-2017 financial report, which proved to be very positive. The annual report, highlighting the main realizations and achievements, highlights the various actions taken and the work accomplished both in the provision of services to members, as well as in projects, representations and partnerships . Mrs Gagnon also highlighted continuous improvement, increased visibility, funding and governance in relation to the strategic axes. "Our goal for Carrefour Nunavut is to build a sustainable, ethical and innovative organization that, through its projects and partners, brings long-term value to members and the community. More than ever, Carrefour Nunavut must project itself into the future and be proactive in developing initiatives that will positively improve our community, "said the organization's executive director.

The year 2016-2017 was marked by innovation in order to carry out projects that have a wider scope, but also to strengthen its position in the Francophone community. Carrefour Nunavut ends this year with renewed interest and enthusiasm. The coming years will also be synonymous with change, growth and innovation.

Following these presentations, we elected three candidates to fill two of the five seats on the Board of Directors. During the evening, two administrators were elected. These are Mr. Nicaise Gnangoran (Caribou Cab) and Mr. Daniel Hillman (The Grind and Brew). Members of the Board of Directors would like to thank the work and dedication of Mrs. Anny-Emily Pasalic (Studio 2628), past President of Carrefour Nunavut. At the next meeting of the Board of Directors, the positions of President, Vice-President and Secretary-Treasurer will be determined by the elected administrators.

"At the end of this mandate, several projects were carried out. We have ensured a better stability of the organization by promoting self-financing and we have more diversified projects such as in the sectors of youth, immigration, entrepreneurship, tourism and economic development. Finally, I would like to thank the continued support of the Board of Directors and the employees of Carrefour Nunavut. Together, we will continue to develop the interests of the community to enable our territory to grow and thrive, "said the outgoing President of Carrefour Nunavut.

Concrete actions to look to the future!

The general meeting ended with the announcement of future projects for the next year. Mrs. Gagnon spoke about the new immigration project, where Carrefour Nunavut is officially recognized to provide services to permanent residents. Also, mention was made of the work with the various consultation tables, such as in the fields of early childhood, youth, economic development and the development of an investment fund for entrepreneurs. Finally, the CEO talked about upcoming projects such as the training plan, networking opportunities, the deployment of the new website and more! Carrefour Nunavut will also consult with the local business community in the design of its new 2018-2021 strategic plan. More than ever, Carrefour Nunavut continues to grow for the benefit of the Nunavummiut.
